"Getting to Know your Bike"

 

You can ride a bike. Do you know how to check it over and maintain it? Would you know how to deal with a puncture or breakdown?

Here is a workshop to show you how and to involve you, hands on!

Group Size:  4 max.

Age group: 11 – 16

When: Fridays - 4:30pm

Where:  Hassocks Community Cycle Hire

(next to the Station and the Hassocks Hotel)

Length of session: Approx. 1.5 hours

What to bring: Your own bike

(if not, bikes will be available to work on)

Cost £5.00

Discounts available for low income families, young carers and siblings.

What the session will cover

The ABC of basic bike maintenance

Air – Checking tyres, removing wheel, removing tyre, refitting tyre. Puncture repair.

Brakes –Different types of brakes, testing brakes, making adjustments and repairs.

Chain – Checking tension and wear, ensure chain runs smoothly. Setting up and adjusting gears.

 

If time allows

What to take for a quick repair - emergency roadside repair kit, spare tubes, pumps, chain joiners and mini tools.
